We reiterate today, that consideration of our developmental level must be linked to our socio-economic and environmental vulnerabilities. This rationale underpins the basis for a multi-dimensional vulnerability index for SIDSand for the ongoing work by the UN on this matter,as endorsed by the General Assemblylast year.

we will require adequate fiscal space and funding to achieve the SDGsand to be ableto respond and recover from the health, social and economic implications of the pandemic,in light of high debt-servicing requirements

The pandemic has demonstrated how quickly our development gains can be erodedand that much more needsto be done by the international community to secure a resilient future for the most vulnerable. We must retain hope in our ability to meet the targets for the SDGs, even with adjusted timelines

We believe thatcountries should be supported in theirefforts to build robust and resilient digital infrastructure. Public investments of this sort can serve as a force multiplier in narrowing the gaps that result in inequitable developmental outcomes. Universal, secure and affordable digital connectivity is needed to ensure inclusive and sustainable development. We,therefore advocatefor an increased digital alliance within the global community and support the UNSecretary General’s High-Level Panel on the Digital Cooperation Roadmap.

Denmark will respond to the call of the Secretary-General. And massively scale up Danish grant-based climate finance to at least 500 million USD a year by 2023. As we are heading towards the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Development Countries in Doha, Qatar next year, we only remain hopeful for the consensusadoption of an ambitious new Programme of Action that should properly focus on the Least Developed Countries(LDCs)and above allthat will be geared towards ensuring that the severely struggling are not left behind in achieving the SDGs.

The situation now has been exacerbated by the devastating impacts of the pandemic on sustainable development, with the most vulnerable countries, particularly the landlocked least developed countries such as Lesotho being the hardest hit. These countries therefore require sustainable and inclusive recovery strategies to accelerate progress towards the full implementation of the 2030 agenda.

Now with nearly nine years remaining, the prospects of the world reaching these forward-looking goals remain on the distant horizon. We are also committed to a social development policy which will allow Peru to meet the millennium development goals especially with regard to access to water, health care, networks, reducing poverty, eliminating extreme poverty, reducing infant mortality, full access to health care, guaranteeing inclusive and quality education, obtaining gender equality, especially job creation and improving informal employment. Jobs are the only lasting antidote to poverty. Healthcare, education, access to water, and sanitation cannot be a business which is a profitable one. These are fundamental human rights that we need to guarantee ensuring universal access which is of quality without any discrimination.

Portugal, and the European Union, stand with multilateralism; with the United Nations; with a rules-based international order; with human rights. There is a need to make greater use of innovative technologies for the prudent and sustainable use of natural resources. Latvia continues to expand its experience of sustainable forest management using digital technologies.

Latvia was one of the first countries in the world to develop several digital solutionsimportant for a sustainable responseto the pandemic.

These would be long-term loans -40 years-at fixed rates to provide extraordinary funds to countries with economic limitations and allow them to respond to the crisis and stay on track to meet the 2030 Development Agenda and the Goals of Sustainable Development (ODS).

Ironically, the countries that have low-carbon emissions, such as the island states or myownregion, Central America, are most affected by climate emergencies. The extreme weather effects result in migrations andcause the developing countries to borrow so as to cope with adaptation and reconstruction

Leaving no one behind: this moral and action compass exists in relation to the most vulnerableonesand to everyone ́s interest, because we are a single interconnected and interdependent macrosystem.

The pandemic also showed us that we need to find ways to build back better and greener. We must recommit to achieving sustainable economies, as well as resilient, fair and inclusive societies where „no one is left behind”. Indeed, the special needs of the vulnerable ones should be granted particular attention. In order to be effective inachieving this aim, solidarity in action is necessary. We also need an integrated and innovative approach to respond simultaneously to a whole range of inter-related challenges, such as health, demographic changes, migration, scarce resources, climate change and biodiversity loss, extreme poverty and hunger.We are indeed at an “inflection point” and Romania welcomes the newly issued report on Our Common Agenda, supports its main conclusions and encourages the Secretary General to continue efforts towardstheir implementation.Romania remains committed to contribute to the collective efforts meant to limit and recover the delays in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

To that end, the United States is making a $10 billion commitment to end hunger and invest in food systems at home and abroad.

During this session, Turkmenistan looks forward to continuing broad dialogue on achieving Sustainable Development Goals. In our view, effective collaboration and practical compatibility of the global, regional, and national instruments for SDG implementation have become a major priority today. We stand for the active promotion of adequate financing of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this regard, we think it is necessary to organize another international conference on development financingvery soon.

We are firmly committed to supportingthe work of ECOSOC as the UN’s key platform for implementingthe 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,clearing our pathto recovery.
