In my opinion, this could also be related to a notion -common in some Asian cultures - that the highest art forms are to be based on ancient models, for example, a work of art does not need to be original (i.e. different or innovative) to be appreciated, but it must adhere to established standards and measures of traditional art, this is most visible in painting, poetry or music.
