By November 2021, China had provided over 1.7 billon doses of Covid-19 vaccine to more than 110 countries and organizations, including 50 African countries and the AU Commission, and is striving to provide an aggregate total – two billion doses by the end of 2021. In addition, it donated US$100 million to COVAX, which aims at ensuring all countries have access to a safe, effective vaccine. 

We remain grateful to our immediate neighbours-India and China for their support in fighting the covid crisis. We also sincerely thank friendly countries, like United States, Britain, Japan and others for providing vaccines, critical medical equipment, and medicines in our fight against the pandemic

In the meantime, as a result of diplomatic initiatives taken at the bilateral level, Trinidad and Tobago and other members of the Caribbean Community received donations of WHO-approved vaccines from several Governments. We also received supplies via the COVAX facility and from the African Medical Supplies Platform

Governments cannot urge people toget inoculated on the basis that the best vaccine is the available vaccine, andyet discriminate against vaccines that were not manufactured directly in North America and Europe.This would not only be a form of vaccine apartheid, it would defeat the objective of inoculating 70 per cent of the world’s peopleby this time next year.This discrimination must ceasenow before it becomes a norm by some developed countries. It is wrong; unjust, and patently unfair

In the midstof this bleak prospect, Covid-19 vaccines have emerged asa hope. In August of 2021, more than 5 billion doses had been administered globally; however, more than 80 per cent of them were appliedin middle or high income countries, even when they account for much less than one half of the world’s population. Hundreds of millions of persons in low-income countries are still waiting to receive their first dose and cannot even estimate when orif they will ever receive it.At the sametime, it is hard to believe thatthe world’s military budget in the year 2020 amounted to almost 2 trillion USD. How many lives would have been saved should those resources had been invested in health or the manufacturing and distribution of vaccines?

Fulfilling the commitment that I announced during the Ibero-AmericanSummit earlier this year, Spain hasalready sent more than 7.5 million doses of vaccines, both throughCOVAXandbilaterally.Oftheremaining22.5milliondosesofvaccines that Spain will be donating in the coming months, I commit to send another 7.5milliondosesto Latin America andtheCaribbean.Because in tough times like these, Spain must stand shoulder to shoulder with the nations with which weshare so much.

We must attach greatest priority to strengthening international scientific cooperation to combat the pandemic. We must strengthen initiatives that have been developed with this view in mind, especially given that I want to state on behalf of Peru the signing of a world agreement between heads of state and the owners of patents to guarantee universal access to the vaccine of all inhabitants of the planet without any privileges or discrimination. This would be a serious demonstration of our commitment to life and health for all peoples.

Vaccines have opened the way and faith for humanity to assume the conviction that we will win this battle but combating the pandemic has shown and demonstrated the international system in capacity to cooperate under principles of solidarity and efficiency. We need agreements in place that will ensure equitable access to vaccines and their application. Multilateral cooperation is still very much absent in fighting COVID-19. The initiative of a new global agenda should include vigorous and urgent multilateral action to combat the pandemic and allow access for all countries, especially the poorest, to vaccines and health coverage.

as we have continued to provide medical supplies and cater for other needs related to tackling the pandemic through the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi) and providing support to the World Health Organization and the Humanitarian Initiative to provide vaccines for the most vulnerable groups and the countries most in need.

Vaccine egoism will only delay the pandemic’s end and lend time to new more lethal mutations. Solidarity should be our binding principle, not an option. Vaccines must be accessible to all and Slovakia will continue supporting the COVAX effort.

More than 5 billion vaccine doses have been administered across the world – but nearly 75% of them are in just ten countries. Fifty countries have less than a 5% vaccination rate, with half of them just a 1% rate. This is a failure of politics projected onto the world stage in real-time.

Recovering from the global impact of COVID-19 is indeed our most crucial single collective priority. There is not one single nation, community or individual which has not been detrimentally impacted. However, we must all understand that this recovery must be anchored oninnovative and sustainable human centred policies and strategiesdelivered in partnership across continents.

It is fundamental to recognise that responding to COVID-19 requires renewed commitment to vaccinations for all. Human safety is the cornerstone of any sustainable recovery from this disastrous health pandemic.

It is vital that we all stand in support and solidarity with the most vulnerable countries and people around the globe, under the guidance of the United Nationsand the World Health Organization. My country, Bulgaria,has joined the efforts to provide vaccines to thosein need by sharing its excess supplies through EU mechanisms and on a bilateral basis

Latviaprovidessupport to increase the availability of vaccines worldwide. Latvia has sent vaccines to its closest neighbours, as well as friends in Africa andAsia, and we plan to continue to share vaccines,including through the COVAX mechanism

The inequality is abysmal and tragic. The solidary idea which resulted in COVAX has nothad the necessary impact, and the access to vaccines is absolutely unequal. 6.Costa Rica advocates for the COVID-19 vaccines to be available to all the world population as a global public good. The COVAX promise must be fulfilled anddeveloped countries can make it happen.

Already, the United States has put more than $15 billion toward global COVID respon- — the global COVID response.  We’ve shipped more than 160 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to other countries.  This includes 130 million doses from our own supply and the first tranches of the half a billion doses of Pfizer vaccine we purchased to donate through COVAX. Planes carrying vaccines from the United States have already landed in 100 countries, bringing people all over the world a little “dose of hope,” as one American nurse termed it to me.  A “dose of hope,” direct from the American people — and, importantly, no strings attached. And tomorrow, at the U.S.-hosted Global 19 — COVID-19 Summit, I’ll be announcing additional commitments as we seek to advance the fight against COVID-19 and hold ourselves accountable around specific targets on three key challenges: saving lives now, vaccinating the world, and building back better.

And for the future, we need to create a new mechanism to finance global health security that builds on our existing development assistance, and Global Health Thr- — and a Global Health Threat Counc- — Council that is armed with the tools we need to monitor and identify emerging pandemics so that we can take immediate action.

We’re engaging with regional institutions — from ASEAN to the African Union to the Organization of American States — to focus on people’s urgent needs for better health and better economic outcomes.  We’re back at the table in international forums, especially the United Nations, to focus attention and to spur global action on shared challenges.  We are reengaged at the World Health Organization and working in close partnership with COVAX to deliver lifesaving vaccines around the world.  We rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement, and we’re running to retake a seat on the Human Rights Council next year at the U.N.

The COVAX mechanism, despite itslimitations, is one such case.Without this system, Africa’s vaccine deficit would be even more severe.But we can and must do more, to speed up vaccine distribution in Africa.Doing so benefits the entire world.The positive steps from various partners and companies toward building local vaccine manufacturingcapacity is also very welcome

2 For the Philippines, we understand that we need to expand our notion of ‘us’ beyond the nation, so we can work together to secure our common future. We recognize that only inclusive multilateralism can deliver the global public goods we need. And we believe that fairness, equality and respect should always be the basis of our engagement with one another. Only with these can we correct the injustices that doom the downtrodden all over the world to a life of indignity. And for thousands during this pandemic - certain death. Mr. President, the picture is bleak. There is a man-made drought of vaccines ravaging poor countries. Rich countries hoard life-saving vaccines, while poor nations wait for trickles. They now talk of booster shots, while developing countries consider half-doses just to get by. This is shocking beyond belief and must be condemned for what it is – a selfish act that can neither be justified rationally nor morally. The plain fact is – this pandemic will not end unless the virus is defeated everywhere. Vaccines are key to achieving this. This is why the Philippines committed One Million Dollars to the UN’s COVAX Facility. This is our modest contribution to our collective fight against COVID-19. We strongly urge our privileged partners to fully support the COVAX Facility and further strengthen other cooperation mechanisms. We need this to save more lives, break the cycle of variants and help ensure global economic recovery.

As an upcomingmember of ECOSOC (2022-2024), Croatia wants to fosterthe deliveranceof a strongermultilateral response to the pandemic, in the spirit of global solidarity and partnership. Safe and effective vaccines, as well as diagnostics and treatment, need to be made more easily accessible to all, in a timelyand sustainable way, and without discrimination.

First, in order to defeat the pandemic, we must ensure that vaccines areaccessible to everyone in theworld. Switzerland is committed to ensuring fairand affordable access to vaccines, treatments and diagnostics. Our countrycontributes to the Vaccine Alliance and supports the COVAX AMC initiative for low-and middle-income countries withUSD 155 million(CHF 145 million). As the host country of several international health organisations, including the World Health Organization, Switzerland provides resources and promotesreforms that enable effective action in this area.

Vaccine equity is of paramount importance in this regard.

We have vaccinated95% of all school children, and 85% of all residents in the Maldives. Schools have resumed. Businesses have restarted. Our borders have been reopened, opening the doors to our resorts.

On the one hand, we see the vaccines developed in record time —a victory of science and human ingenuity. On the other hand, we see that triumph undone by the tragedy of a lack of political will, selfishness and mistrust. A surplus in some countries. Empty shelves in others. A majority of the wealthier world vaccinated. Over 90 percent of Africansstill waitingfor their first dose.
